How can I ensure my speakers & microphone are set up correctly before joining an online meeting?
This article covers the topic of configuring your speakers and microphone before joining an online meeting via Microsoft Teams / Google Meet / Zoom etc.
We will discuss 2 use cases:
- Joining from a laptop ONLY
- Joining using a large display in a meeting room
Laptop only
Please use the following settings:
- Speakers - Realtek(R) Audio
- Microphone - Microphone Array (Realtek(R) Audio)
If you do not see these options, use the inbuilt / default audio devices.
Click the small speaker icon in the bottom right of your screen. From the pop-up menu, click the speaker adjustment logo.
You will see a sound output menu. Select Speakers (Realtek(R) Audio) to ensure your laptop is sending audio to the built-in speakers.
When you are connected to a meeting, ensure that your speakers / microphone are correctly configured within the meeting also. You can either set them before the meeting or within the meeting.
The example below shows where to configure your devices for Google Meet, but it is the same for every major conferencing platform.
Click the space left of the microphone icon at the bottom of the meeting screen, then select your devices.
You can also configure which camera you are using from this area by clicking the space left of the camera icon.
Meeting room display
The steps are more or less exactly the same, but instead of selecting your built-in speakers & microphone, you need to select the speakers & microphone specific to the display you are connected to.
For the Dubai and Algiers meeting rooms, you must first connect your device to the display via KShare before joining the meeting. For the remaining meeting rooms, connect via EShare.
Follow the same steps as you would for joining via laptop only, instead selecting BYOM-Media as the speakers / microphone / camera ( if you wish to use the larger meeting room camera ).
After your meeting has finished, please do not forget to switch your speakers / microphone back to Realtek(R) Audio to use your built-in speakers again.
